Though diamonds are a girl's best friend and the classic choice for an engagement ring, colored stones are a trend that continues to show up on many a celebrity's ring finger. Opting for a colored stone is a fresh take on the traditional engagement ring, and the candy colored sparklers are unique and beautiful. Though many have tried the trend, a few specific engagement rings have stood out.

Empress Josephine

In 1795, Napoleon met his future bride, Josephine. Despite the fact that Napoleon did not have much money, he splurged and bought his love a gorgeous ring, which includes a gold band with a tear shaped sapphire and diamond in a setting called "You and Me," which was popular in the 18th century. The stones are only a carat apiece, but the historical value of the ring cannot be underestimated. The simple but sizzling stunner was auctioned off in France for close to a million dollars in 2013, purchased by an anonymous bidder.

The actress' engagement ring is a pink diamond that cost two million dollars, and the gorgeous oval cut stone is set in rose gold, with small pave diamonds around the band. Created by jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, the pink diamond ring was custom designed to have an Art Deco look.

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton's blue sapphire engagement ring is likely the most famous engagement ring of all time. The Duchess of Cambridge wears the ring that once decorated the finger of Princess Diana, and the famous, royal ring contains an 18-carat diamond and sapphire stone that was purchased in 1981 by Prince Charles. The ring has increased in value over the years, and is now worth half a million dollars. However, no monetary amount can compete with the sentimental value of the beautiful ring, and the sweet gesture made by Prince William when he proposed with his mother's ring.

When John F. Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953, he slipped a gorgeous baguette ring on her finger. The 2-carat diamond and 2-carat emerald setting includes baguette diamonds around the stones, and the ring itself is gold. The ring set Kennedy back over a million dollars, and was designed by Van Cleef & Arpels. The unique design makes the ring stand out, and the combination of baguette stones, diamond accents, and emeralds with diamonds makes it an interesting and memorable engagement ring.

Johnson went to jeweler Neil Lane, who helped him choose a romantic, 5-carat ring that includes an oversized ruby in the center embellished by two diamonds on either side. The gold ring is special to the couple because the ruby is Jessica's birthstone, and the ruby is the stone that symbolizes love. The custom ring includes smaller diamonds that encircle the band all the way around.
